OCC Participates in Consumer Protection Event on Capitol Hill

WASHINGTON—The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) promoted awareness of consumer protection resources during today's National Consumer Protection Week (NCPW) event on Capitol Hill.

NCPW is intended to encourage consumers nationwide to take full advantage of their consumer rights and make better-informed decisions.

"An important part of the OCC's mission is to ensure that national banks and federal savings associations provide fair access to financial services and treat customers fairly," said Comptroller of the Currency Thomas J. Curry. "Our outreach today continues our efforts to help consumers make informed financial decisions and protect against unfair, fraudulent, and deceptive practices."

OCC representatives distributed the agency's HelpWithMyBank booklets, which provide answers to the 250 most frequently asked questions about financial products and services from national bank and federal savings association customers and outline how consumers can file on-line complaints. OCC staff also provided Consumer Advisories, in English and Spanish, on a variety of consumer topics.

The OCC's materials, in English and Spanish, and information from all event participants, are available at the NCPW Website http://www.ncpw.gov.
